Choghadiya (chau-ghadiya, “four ghadis”) is a popular Vedic muhurat system, especially in western India, for picking an auspicious time to begin everyday work. The day from sunrise to sunset and the night from sunset to sunrise are each divided into eight parts. Each part is ruled by a planet and labelled Amrit, Shubh, Labh, Char, Udveg, Kaal or Rog.
Amrit, Shubh and Labh are the auspicious windows; Char is neutral and considered good for travel; Udveg, Kaal and Rog are avoided for new beginnings.
